Continuous Versus First Order Transitions in Compressible Diluted Magnets
نویسندگان
چکیده
The interplay between disorder and compressibility in Ising magnets is studied. Contrary to pure systems in which a weak compressibility drives the transition first order, we find from a renormalization group analysis that it has no effect on disordered systems which keep undergoing continuous transition with rigid random-bond Ising model critical exponents. The mean field calculation exhibits a dilutiondependent tricritical point beyond which, at stronger compressibility the transition is first order. The different behavior of XY and Heisenberg magnets is discussed. ∗Laboratoire associé au C.N.R.S. (U.A. n◦ 17) et aux Université Paris VII et Paris VI. 1

Diluted random fields in Mixed cyanide crystals
A percolation argument and a dilute compressible random field Ising model are used to present a simple model for mixed cyanide crystals. The model reproduces quantitatively several features of the phase diagrams altough some crude approximations are made. In particular critical thresholds xc at which ferroelastic first order transitions disappear, are calculated. Moreover, transitions are found...

In this note we demonstrate the occurrence of first-order transitions in temperature for some recently introduced generalized XY models, and also 1 point out the connection between them and annealed site-diluted (lattice-gas) continuous-spin models.

متن کاملPercolation quantum phase transitions in diluted magnets.
We show that the interplay of geometric criticality and quantum fluctuations leads to a novel universality class for the percolation quantum phase transition in diluted magnets. All critical exponents involving dynamical correlations are different from the classical percolation values, but in two dimensions they can nonetheless be determined exactly. We develop a complete scaling theory of this...
متن کاملMixed cyanide crystals
A model of diluted random field sustained by quenched volume deformations is shown to reproduce puzzling physical features found in X(CN)xY1−x mixed cyanide crystals. X is an alkali metal (K, Na or Rb) and Y is a spherical halogen ion (Br, Cl or I). Critical thresholds xc at which associated first order ferroelastic transitions disappear are calculated exactly. The diluted random field is shown...
